The Complete Guide to WiMAX (April 2006) A Supplement to Telephony Magazine
The telecom industry is at one of those TTrichly interesting points in its history where many different types of migration seem to be happening at the same time. TIn the service provider back office, there TIn TIn is the migration to the era of customer self-maintenance, in which automated net- work management and remote self-service capabilities are changing how broadband service is activated and administered. In the network core, carriers are migrating to IP multimedia subsystem architectures that are simplifying how different types of communications traffic are treated, creating a more structurally open and operationally efficient network environment. And at the access level, carriers are continuing to migrate to new forms of broadband access, Fixed WiMAX being among the latest.

Mobile WiMAX: The Best Personal Broadband Experience!
The WiMAX Forum believes that mobile WiMAX services complement existing and future broadband technologies, both wired and wireless, to best assure the coverage and capacity requirements to meet consumer demand. Clearly any technology that is complementary can also be competitive and it is up to service providers to decide how to best take advantage of WiMAX and how to ensure that their operation remains profitable for the long term.

Mobile WiMAX: A Performance and Comparative Summary
Another key WiMAX milestone has been reached with the approval of the Mobile WiMAX systems profiles in February 2006. Mobile WiMAX based on the 802.16e-2005 enables WiMAX systems to address portable and mobile applications in addition to fixed and nomadic applications. This paper provides a brief overview of mobile WiMAX and presents performance data based on simulations as to how mobile WiMAX compares with HSPA and EVDO, capacity enhancements specified by 3GPP and 3GPP2 for WCDMA and CDMA2000 mobile networks respectively. For a more in-depth discussion of these topics the reader is referred to white papers available on the WiMAX Forum Website [1,2].
