Richard Lau is chief scientist of the Internet and Wireless Network Management Research department at Applied Research of Telcordia. During his 19 years of research in broadband and wireless technologies, he has pioneered fundamental work, including SONET survivable architecture, ATM timing recovery, and ATM self-synchronous scrambler. Dr. Lau holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He received the "New Jersey Inventors of the Year" award in 1997 for his pioneering work on SONET self-healing ring networks and was elected Telcordia Fellow in 2004.
